SPOILERS BELOW --[Opening]-- The thing on Laughter Uzume no Mikoto's head says "Laughter". --[Scarlet Mansion]-- "fire-fire@mokotan-in-sitao.jp-g.ne.jp" This is referencing an ASCII art meme, typically involving Mokou saying "oisu" (wassup) and Keine responding with "moko-tan IN shitao!" (Moko-tan has come IN!) It's often depicted with Mokou coming out of a panel in the floor. "Dial 119 / 118" 119 is Japan's emergency number for fires. 118 is for the coast guard. "Charisma Break" In fandom, Remilia getting embarrassed or humiliated is often referred to as a "Charisma Break" because she's breaking her typically charismatic personalty. Flandre: "This is for Huey!" Huey is a character from "Fist of the North Star". --[Yakumo Chen]-- Ran: "But we're also known as Toki and Amiba." Toki and Amiba are characters from "Fist of the North Star". Amiba impersonates Toki. Chen: "I saw it in District 2 the other day." Colloquially referred to as "ni-choume"; a popular location for Japanese gay subculture, particularly known for its gay bars. Chen: "A second-year named Shiro Amakusa." Shiro Amakusa was the leader of the Shimabara Rebellion, in which a group of Catholics took over a castle to rebel against the Shogunate. This resulted in the Shogunate expelling the Portuguese from Japan. --[Miko Miko Spark]-- "Exclusively Lez / Exclusively Bi" The original term translated to "exclusively lez" is "gachi rezu" (lit. "legit les(bian)"). This term originated as a term for real lesbians to use to distinguish what they're saying from terms like "yuri" or "lesbian" which tend to carry a connotation of being about fictional characters. The term translated to "exclusively bi" is "gachi bai" (lit. "legit bi(sexual)") and is not an actual term that people use. --[Tokamak Love]-- Utsuho: "Every syllable ends with an "a". It has a nice boing... See? Boing." The original word used is "boin" which means "vowel". In slang usage, "boin" can also refer to large breasts. Birdman Rally: This is a competition in which participants attempt to fly the furthest using self-powered aircrafts and gliders. --[Spin Kappa]-- Hina: "Does your family own a furniture store?" Nitori is the name of a furniture store. Nitori: "Hyottokosai." Hyottoko is a general type of comical Japanese character portrayed through a mask with a distinct puckered mouth. Nitori: "You hit me!" Hina: "Oh, are you trying to imitate one of Amuro's lines?" Amuro is the main character of Mobile Suit Gundam. --[Spin Kappa Judging]-- Lily's nameplate changes to "Lily Black" when she swaps. --[Eiki's Message]-- Eiki's message delivery is a parody of the game DoDonPachi, a 1997 shmup game that popularized the bullet-hell/"danmaku" genre. Eiki declares that she will use her weapon, the "Last Brutal Manzai". This phrase was translated similarly to a Touhou fanwork that you may be familiar with, but that's not the intended joke. Eiki's message is merely a DoDonPachi reference. --[Tokamak Love FINALS]-- The mech is the Gouf from Mobile Suit Gundam. --[Binary Drop FINALS]-- Cursive: The original thing said was "katakana". It's the same idea; another way to write the same thing. Eiki: "Ask not the sparrow how the eagle soars." The exact line said ("enjaku izukunzo koukoku no kokorozashi wo shiran ya") is a proverb. A relatively literal translation would be, "A small bird doesn't know the will of a giant bird." Metaphorically, it's effectively saying, "One who is small-minded will never understand the ambitions of one who achieves greatness." Komachi: "If the Liberal [_] Party is allowed to draw freely..." The Liberal Democratic Party is a major Japanese political party. --[Ending Ceremony 2]-- Komachi: "Lady Shiki is wearing HEATTECH right now."
