Extra Translation Notes for 12th Touhou M-1 Grand Prix

--[Opening]--

Clownpiece: "Bozohime"
Clownpiece deliberately addresses Toyohime with no honorific to be rude. Not only does she do this,
she goes out of her way to address Toyohime by name way more than one normally would just to do it more.



--[Jealousy Star]--

Parsee: "I am Master, Master Spark."
A bar "master" in Japanese refers to its owner. While we don't use that term in English, it was left
as-is for the dialogue to flow more naturally.

Parsee: "Skillshare!"
The original name said was "U-CAN" which is a correspondence education company.



--[Wing Beast Instrugentle]--

Kyouko: "Sakurako!" + "Kaoruko!" + "Yog-Sothoth."
These three names said have a slight syllable overlap with the original words being said.

Mystia: "Are you the Peacock King?"
Peacock King is a manga in which the protagonist is a Buddhist exorcist.



--[Miko Miko Spark]--

Marisa: "Magic Liquid"
Marisa says "maeki" (lit. magic liquid) as opposed to "daeki" (saliva).



--[Hifuudou]--

"Better the devil you know than the devil you don't."
The original expression being said here is "oudou cha oudou". The expression essentially means
"the orthadox way is the proper way" which is to say, the general consensus is often correct.

Sumireko: "We are... Gungans." + "Jar Jar"
The original species said is "jural seijin" which a race of aliens from the anime "Chargeman Ken!".
"Jar Jar" is originally "Barican", a comic relief character from the anime that some find annoying.



--[Grand Champion Judgment]--

Eiki's message delivery is a parody of DoDonPachi Resurrection.



--[Hifuudou FINALS]--

Word Chain:
In the original dialogue, Sumireko is ends everything with "pe", meaning Rinnosuke must respond
with a word starting with "pe". Sumireko says arbitrary things and adds "pe" to the end.

Sento-kun:
This is the mascot of the city of Nara.

Hiro Tsunoda:
A singer and musician. The original lines involve a pun in that "tsuno" means "horn/antler".

Rinnosuke: "Since she loves chai so much."
In Urusei Yatsura, Lum regularly appends "cha" to her sentences. The original line claims she
was raised in Yamaguchi Prefecture, as that's a common characteristic of the region's dialect.



--[Binary Drop FINALS]--

Eiki's stage and outfit:
Eiki's outfit and the stage at the beginning are referencing the enka singer Sachiko Kobayashi.

Cursive:
The original thing said was "katakana". It's the same idea; another way to write the same thing.

Eiki: "Then, like Binbocchama".
Binbocchama is from the manga/anime "Obocchama-kun". He is very poor but also very prideful, so
he wears the front half of a suit tied together with strings on the back side.

--[Heavenly Roar]--

"Bishapunten"
His original name is "Bishoumonten".
It is meant to resemble "Bishamonten" but "sha" is replaced with "shou", meaning "laugh".

Uzume: "They'll have to find your vertebra!"
During cremation in Japan, bones are arranged in a particular order.
The second cervical vertebra is the last one.

nicknamed "Brother Sharp" after a photograph of him went viral.
