Extra Translation Notes for 13th Touhou M-1 Grand Prix Watching the full video before reading this is recommended if you'd like to avoid spoilers. SPOILERS BELOW --[Y'oughta Show 'Em-U-No]-- The original team name is "yareba dekiru no". This is an expression that means "You can do it if you try." The "Ya" and "No" at the beginning and end are modified to be written the way that the "Ya" in Yatadera and the "No" in "Nemuno" are written. Narumi: "Like rhyming "Kodak" with "Kodak"." The original thing said is "arigatou origotou" (lit. "thank you oligosaccharide") which is referencing the comedy duo Joyman. They are best known for skits in which words are rhymed in a comical way. --[Yorigami Sisters]-- Shion: "Kof[u]ku Ebisu is coming!" The original name said is "King Bomby", a poverty god antagonist in Momotaro Dentetsu. --[Backdoor Performer]-- Mai: "dude"..."dude"..."dude"... Mai distinctly refers to herself with the pronoun "boku" which is very abnormal in Touhou. This isn't very well-known by English speakers and is awkward to convey in English, so Mai's speech was tweaked such that she regularly refers to the listener as "dude". This is a notable deviance from the way she typically speaks in English translations, where her speech usually isn't very distinct in any way. Satono: "Can you plug your nose and ears?" It was common for deceased bodies used to be "plugged" with cotton to prevent bodily fluid leakage. Satono: "Are we going for some shoddy B movie?" In the original line, Satono refers to "V-Cinema" rather than a "shoddy B movie". V-Cinema is a trademarked term referring to a movie directly released for home video with no theatrical release. By their nature, V-Cinema releases tend to be lower budget and involve more controversial or extreme content than theatrical releases likely would. --[Oki☆Sha☆]-- The "Sha" in the team name comes from the word "ekisha" meaning fortune teller. --[Yorigami Sisters FINALS]-- Shion: "Ada[chito]ka are coming!" The original name said is "Kazuo Enomoto", the designer of King Bomby. Shion: "KSI: Kotohime's Scene Investigation" The original TV program being parodied is "Gekiroku: Keisatsu Micchaku 24ji!!", an infrequently aired police documentary. --------------------------- Disclaimer / Clarification: This document was voluntarily put together by the translator/subtitler. It was written based on my personal understanding and interpretation of the dialogue. It's possible that I've missed some jokes or references. This is not an exhaustive list of every joke--only ones obscured by language or cultural barriers. To demonstrate what I mean (and serve as a bonus for those who didn't get the reference), here is an example of a reference that wouldn't normally be noted: In Yorigami Sisters' first manzai, Shion attempts to bribe Joon with a Rolls-Royce Phantom, which is an *extremely* high-end luxury car.
