Extra Translation Notes for Touhou M-1 Grand Prix EX3

--[Troupe miko]--

Tojiko: "Have at it!"
This is one one of multiple lines that Tojiko says in a speech bubble above her sprite when
she shows up during the player's battle against Miko in Ten Desires. This line in particular
("yatteyanyo" in Japanese) caught on and became a phrase associated with Tojiko.

Tojiko: "I was throwing you!"
In Japanese, Tojiko specifically says "hikkake" which is a particular type of sumo throw.

Futo: "Nicky! I summon thee! + Ridiculous! Backstreet Boys isn't coming."
In the Japanese dialogue, Tojiko threatens to bring allies ("nakama") and Futo's response is to
bring Yukie Nakama.



--[Cat Stone]--

Koishi: "Kept you waiting, Sasakitty."
Koishi isn't actually saying "Sasakitty" in the original dialogue, but rather "Sasakicchi".
The "cchi" after the name adds a feeling of familiarity; it's a nickname.

Rin: "Why is Kojiro wearing ALBA ROSA?!"
ALBA ROSA was a pricey clothing brand with iconic large open coats.



--[Drunken Miko'chu!☆]--

All of the lines in the oath that's said are tweaked in some way in the subtitles. The actual
meaning of the lines are preserved for the most part but the wording is very different to enable
jokes in English that resemble the ones in Japanese. Unlike the one in 9th Touhou M-1 Grand Prix,
the translated oath here makes no attempt to actually imitate a real Olympic oath.

Suika: "We will Princess Mononoke."
The original line says Spirited Away instead of Princess Mononoke.
The format of the joke is the same.

Suika/Reimu: "NSYNC! Bye Bye Bye!"
Suika: "No Strings Attached."
The original name said is Kazumasa Oda, who was a member of the band Off Course
which produced the song "Sayonara".



--[Witch Doll]--

Marisa: "Xiang Xiang."
Xiang Xiang is the name of a giant panda.

Marisa: Boo + Casper + Takeoff + "ghost ride the Wraith"
This explanation is very long, so it was placed at the bottom of the document.

--[Alcoholic Junkies]--

Just to clarify, any time there is singing with no subtitles, the "lyrics" are meaningless.



--[Scarlet Mansion]--

Remilia's PSA Chant:
Remilia's chant she does as a PSA is a variant of a common chant that used to be
taught to children. It's not really used nowadays though.










--[Witch Doll Cont.]--

Marisa: Boo + Casper + Takeoff + "ghost ride the Wraith"

This is easier to explain if you know what was originally said, so here is what's said in the
Japanese dialogue for the segment, starting from the "No, you won't encounter a Boo." line in the
subtitles. This begins at 28:06 in the video if you want to find it for reference.

Marisa: No Q-Taro-esque things will appear.
Alice:  Obake. (All previous lines mentioning a "spook" used the word "obake" in Japanese.)
Marsia: Q-Taro won't show up.
Alice:  "Q-Taro won't show up?" So something else will?
Marisa: O-jiro might appear.
Alice:  O-jiro?!
Alice:  I don't want O-jiro to show up.
Marisa: O-jiro... Well, worry not.
Alice:  Huh?
Marisa: There will be no PENICILLIN drum.
Alice:  What do you mean?!
Marisa: Right.
Alice:  I don't want a PENICILLIN drum to come out at night!
Alice:  Isn't that person alive?!
Marisa: Wants you to realize it, huh?
Marisa: Must want you to realize it.
Alice:  What do you want me to realize?
Marisa: Please realize my love.
Alice:  You what?
Marisa: O-JIRO wants you to realize the love.
Alice:  This is getting so weird!

So, to explain everything in the original dialogue:
Q-taro is a prankster ghost and the main character of "Obake no Q-taro" (lit. "Q-taro the Obake").
O-jiro is the younger brother of Q-taro and has the mannerisms of a toddler.
PENICILLIN is a band in which O-JIRO (said the same way as O-jiro) is the drummer.
"Please realize my love." is a line from from PENICILLIN's song "Romance"
