Extra Translation Notes for Touhou M-1 Grand Prix EX5

--[Celebration VTR / Performance 2]--

Kasen: "That makes no sense. Kuon supposedly said that?"
Seiga: "He *did* say that. How rude."
Kasen refers to Kuon with no honorific in the Japanese dialogue, causing Seiga to tell her off.

Kasen: "What is this, a late-night talk show? You want me to go "HAHAHAHA!" at every comment?"
What Kasen originally says is, "That's what ADs do!" It's common to have arguably
over-the-top laughter come from Japanese film production crews to help boost morale.



--[Dealing With Weird Fans / Performance 6]--

Kasen: "4chan and Yahoo! Answers are credible sources."
"Yahoo! Answers" is "Uwasa no Shinsou" in the original dialogue. Uwasa no Shinsou was a magazine
that was known for scandalism to advocate against government and authority.

Kasen: "She works in a paper factory. She makes paper flooring."
The mentioned "paper flooring" is specifically "yuton." Yuton is a traditional type of paper
mat that would often be used during summer due to it being very good at absorbing heat and
feeling cool to the touch.

Kasen: "5 rin! But it started at 3.6 rin!"
Rin is an obsolete Japanese currency that was worth one-thousandth of a yen.

Kasen: "SEI GA SATURN"
In the Japanese dialogue, Kasen originally says "kaku sei zai."
Kakuseizai is the Japanese word for stimulant drugs.



--[Casual Radio Show / Performance 7]--

Kasen: "But my senses tell me to stop. Poison."
Seiga: "Alice Cooper."
Kasen's original line is "This is the kind of world where you can't say what you want. It's Poison,"
referencing the song "Poison: Iitai Koto mo Ienai Konna Yo no Naka wa" and Seiga responds with
"Takashi Sorimachi," the singer of said song.

Kasen (burning photo): "It's in a big ashtray...."
Burning photos of one's ex-partner is an older practice that was common.
Nowadays it's probably mostly used as a trope in media.
